Desideri's journey in Europa (27.9.1712 - 16.3.1713 e 11.8.1727 - 23.1.1728)
Ippolito Desideri's journey in Europe, here reported in a sketch-map and in timetables, was accomplished mostly overland, for the outwardly journey, and by sea, for the return journey. Apart from the interest connected to the description of the way of travelling a the beginning of the Eighteenth Century, it is important to know the places, particularly in France, where the Jesuit missionary could meet outstanding personality of the religious and secular world (even of the royal court). In these occasions the first reliable news related to Tibet and Buddhism arrived in Europe, About the meetings at La Flèche see the paper by Alison Gopnik, Could David Hume Have Known about Buddhism? Charles François Dolu, the Royal College of La Flèche, and the Global Jesuit Intellectual Network. Paper read Friday, June 27, 2008 to the Seventeenth Annual World History Association Conference (Queen Mary, University of London, June, 26-29 2008) and published in “Hume Studies”, Vol. 35, n 1-2, 2009, pp. 5–28.
